About

Meet Mati Sipiora

Mati Sipiora is a designer and craftsman, founder of an eponymous furniture brand developed within his family’s metalworking workshop in Czepino, Poland. His work combines contemporary design with traditional metalworking techniques, resulting in small-batch objects crafted entirely by hand.

Holding a PhD in design, Sipiora spent more than a decade working in industrial design, with a particular focus on products for people with neurological impairments. He gained professional experience in Poznań and Berlin, where he worked in international design environments. His return to the family workshop marked the beginning of his independent practice, rooted in craftsmanship, material exploration, and a conscious approach to production.

Working primarily with traditional tools such as a lathe, hydraulic press, and welding equipment, Sipiora deliberately avoids CNC machining and automated manufacturing processes. His designs are characterized by minimalist forms, precision craftsmanship, and an emphasis on the natural qualities of steel. Among his best-known works are the Poodle Armchair, and the Cosmic Tray.

His practice offers a contemporary interpretation of the legacy of his family’s metalworking business, which has been operating continuously for more than 30 years.

the story

SIMAR Metalworks was founded in 1988 in Czepino, Poland, through the initiative and hard work of my father, Marian Sipiora. At the beginning, it was a modest metal workshop producing gates, fences, and railings. Year after year, the workshop expanded—growing steadily into a well-established and thriving company.

For me, SIMAR has always been more than just a workplace. It’s where I spent my childhood, where I found endless inspiration, and where I was surrounded by the sights, sounds, and textures of metalworking. From an early age, I was drawn to the metal elements around me, fascinated by the process of turning raw material into something functional and beautiful. It was a natural step for me to begin creating my own furniture within these very walls.

Today, SIMAR is not just a metal fabrication company—it’s a family legacy built on passion, precision, and craftsmanship. Many of the craftsmen working with us have been here for over 40 years. Their experience and dedication are the heart of our company, and their skill ensures that everything we create meets the highest standards of quality and design.

Stainless steel

with its indestructible brings a modern edge to Mati’s work. Used in environments as demanding as medicine and marine engineering, the metal allows him to create reflective, functional objects that resist time and wear. Its tough yet refined nature aligns perfectly with his philosophy — creating objects that merge durability with timeless aesthetics.

Every piece from Mati Sipiora’s collection is a dialogue between material and maker — an exploration of how stainless steel can shape the way we live today.

Press

Mati Sipiora’s distinctive approach to design has gained recognition in world press, with his works featured in leading international design publications. His commitment to craftsmanship and innovative use of materials continue to attract global attention.

Drawings

For Mati, drawings play a crucial role in the design process. Each piece begins as a sketch — a bridge between imagination and creation. His meticulous hand-drawn designs capture not only the form but the essence of the final object. Abstract drawings serve as a key source of inspiration, offering a free-flowing exploration of shapes, lines, and structures that later transform into tangible objects. This process reflects his belief that every idea is born on paper before becoming reality.
